Our Type 1 to Schuko charging cables are normally returned for one of the reasons below. Reading this information may help you to avoid having to return the charger. Please also read all the information on this page as it contains important information about this Type 1 vehicle socket mobile charger.
Ensure compatibility between the charging cable and your vehicle. The images on this page provide a visual guide to the connector pins, allowing you to match the cable plug to your vehicle socket. You can also use our EV Cable Finder to locate your vehicle and explore the charging cables available for your vehicle.
Is the cable long enough? Measure the distance from your Schuko socket to your Type 1 vehicle socket, typically where your vehicle is parked, and add half a meter to prevent overstretching the cable.
Cable Care & Safety
To ensure the proper care of your charger, be sure to follow the safety instructions outlined in the user booklet provided with your charging cable. These chargers have a 12 months manufacturer warranty. However, following the instructions and safety information for using the Type 1 mobile charger will help to ensure years of trouble-free use. If Your Vehicle Has A Type 1 Socket, You Can Use This Mode 2 Charger To Charge Your Vehicle Using a Household / Schuko Socket
This Mode 2, Type 1 to Schuko charging cable can charge a Type 1 socket hybrid or full electric vehicle up to 16A, which equates to around 3,7kW. It is ideally suited as a backup charging device for your vehicle. We highly recommend that an electrician certifies your Schuko socket for charging an electric vehicle.
Plug this Type 1 charger into a Type F (Schuko|) socket and charge your vehicle up to 16A. Adjusting the charger’s current to 10A allows charging at the recognised safe limit of 10A. The current can also be set to 8A or 6A for connection to solar panels / PV power supplies.
Reducing the charging current minimises the heat stress on a Schuko socket. This is important if a Schuko socket lacks a dedicated circuit connection. Or where the circuit and socket haven’t been certified for charging an electrical vehicle by a qualified electrician.
This Type 1 to Schuko charger has a timer, enabling delayed charging from 1 to 10 hours after plugging in. It also has AC 30mA + DC 6mA (Type B) fault detection.

Is This Type 1 to Schuko Charger Suitable For My BEV / PHEV?
Choosing The Right Charger
To use this Schuko charging cable, your vehicle must have a Type 1 socket. Refer to the photo of a Type 1 socket on this page and match it to your EV.
If you are still not sure, click the button below to find your BEV/PHEV. This will enable you to verify if your vehicle is equipped with a Type 1 socket. Additionally, please review the information at the top of this page under “Please Read Before You Buy”. This information will help you to avoid the most common reasons for returning a 3-pin charging cable.
Use A Suitable Socket
Charging an EV for long periods with a Schuko socket may cause thermal damage to the socket. For example, the socket might overheat if the socket is damaged, if there is faulty wiring, or if the electrical circuit is overloaded. It is rare, but it does happen.
For this reason, we strongly recommend having an electrician inspect the intended socket to certify its suitability for charging an electric vehicle. This assessment should include factors such the duration and regularity of charging (e.g., 4 hours each day).
We understand that charging your vehicle with a socket certified by an electrician may not always be feasible. Charging your vehicle on holiday for example. In such instances, we recommend charging the vehicle at 6A. It is also a good idea to ensure that both the plug and socket are not becoming excessively hot during charging.
Avoid using an extension lead or adapter. Plug the charger directly into the socket. Ensure that water does not come into contact with the prongs of the 3-pin plug or enters inside the Type 1 plug. Keep the charger dry when not in use. Before using this charger, be sure to read the user booklet included with the charger.
